Community Calendar Guide

NewsOverCoffee announces a new Community Calendar.

Since virtually no one tested the development site, many won't notice a change to the calendar, but there are some things you should know about how to use Upcoming.org the site hosting the NewsOverCoffee's Community Calendar.

If you link directly to NOC's Community Calendar, you will see that this is a Public Group, and there are links to group events. Each event includes a metro. There is also a description of this group and a discussion area.

To view an event, simply click on the link for more information. To return to the NewsOverCoffee Group, use the back arrow (<-), or click on Groups and search for the name in the list.

To add an event, or more easily navigate to NewsOverCoffee's Group, register for an account. You will fill in a brief form and be sent an email. When you get the email, click on the link to confirm you want to join. Then you are ready to begin.

When you log in you will want to join a Metro and a group. I've added LehighValley as a Metro location to add all Lehigh Valley events, including those specific to Nazareth. Once you select a Metro, you will see My Metros, you can join as many as you'd like, at the top of the Metro Tab page. Then you will have the option to add an event to the Metro.

Select Add an Event...
A form will be shown, fill in the information. If the event is a single day, only enter the start date, leaving the end date empty. If the venue where the event is being held is not in the drop-down box, you will need to add it. Click on add venue and complete the form. You will then be directed back to the original event form. When you've completed the form select Preview. Select Add Event.

Once the event is added you need to post it to the Group. Please post events to the News Over Coffee's Community Calendar only if they are taking place in the Nazareth Area, and leave other area events in the Lehigh Valley Metro. To add the event to the group, look at the event on the screen. You will see under the title a box titled "Add to My Events", under it is one titled "Tags" and under it is one titled "Groups". In groups you will see send to group with a down arrow. The groups you are a member of will be listed in the drop-down box. Select the one to submit it to and the event will appear in the group list.

If you add an event to the group, that should not be in a group, simply go to groups, select the group you added it to, and click on the tiny trash can to the right of the listing. You will not delete the event, instead you will only disassociate the event with the group.

Please contribute all events and activities in the Nazareth Area to this site. News Over Coffee will prepopulate as many as possible.
