The Nazareth Borough Council's Economic Development Committee (of which I am a volunteer member) had its regular monthly meeting on 4/25/06 at Borough Hall. The primary purpose/focus of the meeting was the Main Street Program.
Committee Chairperson Cindy Werner welcomed everyone and I provided an overview of the Main Street Program (view the presentation I based this overview on - note it is an open office document) and what the Nazareth Area needed to do to implement one.
To date the Chamber of Commerce has had a working group that has done significant work in this area led by Bill Brackbill and Frank Frey. To move forward, the support of Council was needed and received at the April monthly meeting and now a grant application (again written by Bill Brackbill and reviewed by John Bry of the PA Downtown Center) is being recommended by the Economic Development Committee (EDC) for Council to submit to the PA Department of Community and Economic Development.
This grant will provide the Main Street organizing committee with $5,000.00 to formalize itself without requiring matching money.
The group of individuals at the EDC meeting agreed that a public meeting should be held prior to mid-June for the purpose of identifying individuals interested in serving on the initial committees (design, organization, promotion, and economic).
