2nd Annual Repayment Day in the Barony of the Rose

The Nazareth Rotary Club will be holding its "2nd Annual Repayment Day" of a single red rose, as was in accordance with the town's first known property deed which called for this repayent each June 24.

Originally this tract of 5,000 acres, which would become Nazareth, was a feudal estate owned by William Penn's family. Penn bequethed this land to his daughter, Letititia, who under Colonial Law, would have had to pay one red rose each June 24, is so demanded by the trustees. Hence, Nazareth was named "The Barony of the Rose."

In commemoration of this common practice under English Colonial Law, single red roses will be sold throughout the borough of Nazareth on Friday, June 23 and Saturday morning, June 24.

Look for Rotary Club members, along with some of our local youth as follows: Nazareth Center Circle, YMCA, Giant, Keystone/Nazareth Bank Drive-thru, and other locations throughout Nazareth.

Each year 100% of the proceeds will be donated to a local Nazareth charity.
