As reported in the Express Times, the Nazareth Area School District Board of Directors voted to increase taxes for the upcoming school year.
Board Member Tom Maher suggested a half million dollars in proposed cuts, but they were not considered by other Board Members because they did not have enough time to consider them.
Also according to the Express-Times article the upcoming school budget is 8.3% higher than this year's.
I can't remember a year in which the school has not raised taxes, so I'm not at all surprised that they've done so again. However, ignorning a half million dollars in potential savings because they needed more time does not seem to be in the best interest of the community.
What do you think? Should the district pursue savings despite having passed the budget? Are they being good stewards of the taxpayers' dollars?
