Council Vote to Terminate New Government Center Falls Short by One Vote

Following the period of public comment (read here) the Nazareth Borough Council voted on a resolution put forward by Councilwoman Werner and seconded by Councilman Herbst to terminate the plan to build an expansion on the existing Council Chambers.

In a roll call vote:
  • Yes (to terminate) - President, Daniel Chiavaroli
  • Yes - Cynthia Werner
  • Yes - Jack Herbst
  • No - John Samus
  • N0 - Conrad Bowers
  • N0 - Larry Stoudt
  • Yes - Michael Kopach
  • No - J. Michael Davis
  • No - Rev. William Matz
The vote failed 4-5 and the plan that was resubmitted to the architect is expected to be discussed at the next Council Workshop.

This was still a victory!! We gained the support of Mr Chiavaroli who clearly did the right thing, by voting the will of the people!! Also, we had a large crowd of supporters that showed council members that it is a townwide concern, not just a neighborhood concern.
