Dept of Transporation Meeting on Route 33 Sinkholes

In an article in the Times Leader (read it here) from the AP Wire (9/18/06) stated:
The state transportation and environmental protection departments plan to hold a meeting Wednesday to discuss the findings of a study about the Route 33 sinkhole problem.
Obviously living in this area, one is aware of sinkholes, but it does seem that their is either more being reported of them, or they are occuring more frequently in recent years. The one that shut down route 33 was critical due to where it happened, and I for one do not want to see it occur again as the traffic put through Nazareth was nearly too much to bear.

Are there more sinkholes? What can be done? How much do we really know about their cause? This issue will only continue to be more problematic as more land is developed and more development is impacted when they occur.
