There was an interesting report in the Wilkes-Barre Times' Leader pulled from an AP Wire of a Johnstown Tribune-Democrat editorial (read it here) addressing the issue of Teachers' Strikes from the perspective of the state guidelines.
Also, in regard to my comments about finding a better process that allows both teachers and administrations to negotiate but not impact students, a group in Yardley, PA was brought to my attention. They are called Stop Teacher Strikes, Inc. You can read the press announcement of their launch (here) or visit their web site (here).
Obviously, the issue of most importance to local residents now is avoiding a strike and coming to a resolution, but the bigger issue is having a system in place for the future that is fair to all parties without negatively impacting the students.
What do you think? Can a system be put in place in PA that bans teachers' strikes, but allows for fair negotation or do the teachers need the option to strike in order to force the hand of administration to put a best offer on the table?
