Lower Nazareth Township Tax Decrease
According to the Morning Call (read the article here) and the Express-Times (read the article here) supervisors in Lower Nazareth Township will be voting to return the tax rate to the 2005 level in 2007. A 25% hike was made in 2006 to produce revenue to start-up a trash collection program. The hike resulted in $274,000 that is now in the general fund, but the collection program was not started. As a result the Supervisors are returning to the previous tax rate level as they move forward with the plan. If they do not implement a plan the money can be reallocated.

How about reallocating that money back to the taxpayers they took it from?
We are not dealing with rocket science here folks. This is a simple sanitation contract. You put out a proposal, review the bids, then select the best one.
This is just another example of how inept the LN board of supervisor are.
You have to love the quote from supervisor Alan Dilsaver joking that it's not an election year for supervisors. He should thank his lucky stars that it isn't because he would most likely be out of office.
This is yet another example of the total disregard the board has for the residents of Lower Nazareth. Just attend any board meeting and this will be painfully clear as they talk down to the people and at times even ridicule them. Who can forget that famous quote from the solicitor after the damage inflicted by Hurricane Ivan to the gathered citizens that "water does run down hill you know" when asked what the township was going to do to fix the stormwater management problem and all the sinkholes it created.
Well, something else rolls down hill and I hope that the citizens of Lower Nazareth remember how they jacked up our taxes and failed to deliver then use our tax dollars for some other pet project.
I would say the Lower Nazareth Supervisors are lucky it's not an election year! WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? You increase our taxes to start a uniform collection program and after the fact decide it's too hard because you didn't have a plan. That's not even funny. It's irresponsible.
Not living in Lower Nazareth, I wasn't aware of the 25% hike until reading these articles this morning.
For those of you that do attend these meetings, if you take a moment to email me (editor@newsovercoffee.com) after each one I'll post them up anonymously as I do with the school board.
It seems the earlier these issues are brought to people's attention the better your chances are of not being put in a situation like this one.
It'll be interesting to see where this money is spent as it was noted that for now it is earmarked, but could be used for anything.

At any rate, I wanted to make the point that not living in Lower Nazareth I was unaware of this big tax hike until reading today's article.
It seems this is exactly the type of action that can be headed off with enough public input, providing people are aware of what is happening early enough in the process.
If you attend any of the township meetings and can send me a quick email afterward, I'll post them anonymously, just as I do with the school board.

Unfortunately, public opinion does little to change the attitude of the township manager and board. It is basically you are either with us or against us.
During courtesy of the floor, if you are with them, you are allowd to ramble for as long as you want. If you are against them, then then egg timer comes out and you get your 1 minute to speak.
This is completely selective and they will time one person and not the next. So, what has become clear to me after attending some of these meetings is the we the people are there to serve the board of supervisors and the township manager.
I would love to video tape a session because it is almost comical to watch, with at least one member that often falls asleep, or is at least playing opossum and many times they all having a laugh at some citizens expense.
This simple task of contracting sanitation services for the township proved to be too difficult for them to handle, which should speak volumes to all the residents of Lower Nazareth. But, this is pretty much how I have seen many things go, that is, unless it is approving a new truch terminal warehouse.
