I understand that there is a printing cost, but it would seem that the menu is a fairly basic piece of information parents should have. Not every family has a computer and not every family with a computer has a printer.
Maybe instead of cutting this out, they could simply combine it with some other handout that comes home (we get a pile weekly). I'm sure one of them has an empty back side that the menu could be printed on.

I love this! Let's spend millions of dollars we don't have on unneeded projects like a pool, fancy facade and all weather stadium (which if you noticed EASTON nixed because the cost was high), but cut something that maybe costs a few hundred dollars a year.
At LNES, the menu came with the monthly news letter, and was printed on the back side of another page typically, so the cost was really minimal.
As stated, not every family has a computer and access to the internet.
Maybe the district should focus on some cuts that really amount to something.
Reading the menu on the backside such as the Shafer Scoop or other school newsletters seems like a very workable solution vs elimation of the menu totally as a hand out. Yes I do know of those who do not have computers. Maybe they can pick up a copy at district offices if they request so ahead of time. Ho Ha HO. have a safe and happy holiday.
my thinking- or assumption- is maybe it is to allow flexibility for changes on menu throughout the month? I do like the reduction in paper and manpower but think they could have said that menus are provided upon request-very presumptious to believe all students/parents have access to a computer-maybe it could be suggested to the food service people
Print on demand is the way to go. There is too much needless paper floating around anyway.
Provided you have access to the internet and then a printer (and yes call me cheap, but with printer cartridges costing what they do, I don't print from home).
Maybe the next step will be to have parents print out the worksheets used in class ;-)
already happening (sort of) my friends 2nd grader has his homework assignments posted on the computer
Who says you have to print it? Just view the soft copy.
Priorities! Priorities! Must have swimming pool. Must have artificial turf . Must have........ Who cares what a child eats . or if they can read or add and subtract!!
Looking at the amount of worksheets printed out for the pssa practices, I am quite surprised the district would first cut out the printing of a menu. We do have a computer but the printed handout menu is in our kitchen and serves as a reminder as the choices to pack or buy and costs.
NOT EVERY FAMILY HAS A COMPUTER, SOME KIDS LIVE WITH THEIR GRANDPARENTS AND MOST OF THEM DON'T OWN COMPUTERS. I AGREE WITH SENDING IT OUT WEEKLY WITH ALL THE OTHER MEMO'S WE GET. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE OLD WAY...JUST AS EASY TO CUT IT OUT OF THE US OR KEY PAPER AND POST IT ON THE FRIDGE. DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE CAN'T LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE. I FOR ONE DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO GO ON-LINE, ACCESS THE WEB AND PRINT OUT THE MENU. SO INSTEAD OF THE SCHOOL PAYING A PRINTING FEE WE WILL PASS ON THE EXPENSE OF INK AND PAPER TO PRINT IT OUT TO THE PARENT WHO ALREADY PAYS MORE THAN ENOUGH TAXES. GIVE ME A BREAK, SOON WE WILL BE PAYING FOR TEXT BOOKS FOR OUR KIDS, ITS BAD ENOUGH WE HAVE TO PAY CLASS DUES WHEN THE KIDS GET TO THE JR AND SR HIGHS. SORRY BUT I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS.
I have to tell you, I turned on the computer, logged on my computer, clicked to access the web, entered the NASD web site in my browser, clicked on the elementary site, then clicked on parents, then clicked on menu, then clicked on printable menu, then clicked to print and then had to wait for the printed copy,,,,takes a bit of time and of course as usual the NASD site froze as it always does when i access it .
LEAVE THE POOL OUT OF IT.
