Not quite, but over the weekend a few readers pointed out to me a link to an article in the Express-Times by Joseph Owens, Editor, announcing his new blog.
When I visited the new blog in the right column under "Favorite Weblogs" he listed two, Bernie O'Hare's Lehigh Valley Ramblings and NewsOverCoffee.
Bernie was quick to note the recognition and forwarded a link to his post on the new blog (read it here).
I was surprised by the recognition, but moreso in the article announcing the new blog. Most people when they hear the term blog tend to envision the vanity site, not the "placeblog" as these are coming to be known (though I still contend a blog is nothing more than a publishing system and prefer community web site or hyper-local site).
NewsOverCoffee's influence could be seen in Owens comment that blogs are today's meeting houses and that the technology is bringing society full circle. A blog in his words is no longer about one person providing commentary, but instead a place where people from a community can discuss issues of the day.
Maybe I was reading too much into it, but I was surprised. His take on blogs was not altogether different than the welcome message I have posted here.
In regard to his own blog, it will be interesting to see how it takes shape. So far he has two posts that to me are similar to a print edition editorial written in a more casual and less formal tone. I'd personally be far more interested in learning what editorial decisions were made and why? What stories were cut? Why put this picture in? Why this story on this page? Etc.
We'll see where it goes as it shapes up, but in the meantime thanks to Joe for the recognition to NewsOverCoffee for being a favorite blog of his.
