The Express-Times' Sarah Cassi reports today on the County Council seats that will be contested in the 2007 elections (read the article here).
Her article notes that five County Council seats will be open this year. Three by region and two at-large. One of the at-large seats is to fill a term and will only be a two year term, all others will be four year terms.
The region seats include the one currently held by Ron Angle, which I believe (but am not certain) covers the Nazareth Borough area, but may not extend to Lower Nazareth (if anyone has the regions and which municipalities are covered that would be great, I'll try to find out in the meantime).
These five seats, along with four on Nazareth School Board and six on Nazareth Borough Council mean that there are a lot of seats being contested this year that typically receive little attention, but have a significant impact on our daily life.
If you want to learn more about how to become a candidate, visit the Nazareth News Agency on Thursday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m. for a free, non-partisan one hour program, "Resident to Candidate". This nuts & bolts presentation will teach you the fundamentals of what you need to do, how to do it, and when it must be done in order to become a candidate. It will also feature current officials (not up for election this year) to provide insight on what to expect during the campaign and once you are elected, and party officials who will help you understand what help you can expect and what you can do to help yourself during the campaign.

mgctvRuss, you're wrong. Nazareth is not part of Angle's district. The councilperson who supposedly represents Nazareth is asbestos lawyer Lamont McClure, appointed to the job as a result of back room shenanigans. He also represents Lower Nazareth. McClure intends to run again. He's lost the two times he's run for office.
Upper Nazareth and Bushkill are in Angle's district. He is seeking a third term.
Thanks Bernie, knew someone would have the information.
Mon plaisir.
