Election Office saga continues

Bernie O'Hare has done a great job reporting on the Citizens' Advisory Committee established by Northampton County Executive John Stoffa. The Committee is advising the Voter Registration and Election Office which has had some significant issues in recent years.

Bernie has provided detailed information from these meetings and the last one included a discussion regarding the Resident to Candidate forum held at the Nazareth News Agency (read the post here).

At issue was the fact that the Election Office did not send a representative. It would have been welcomed and I'd have preferred having someone from that office provide the information directly, as opposed to myself figuring it out and relaying it to others. I was surprised that it became an issue at the meeting.

County Executive Stoffa, as well as the Advisory Committee, seem to understand how significant the operation of this office is and it is good to know they do. The integrity of the office must be beyond reproach. I hope that more attention is given to their work by the media as we move into our municipal elections with a presidential election on the horizon.

Ross, What amazes me is the person who wanted to know why DePaul couldn't send someone. It wasn't me or Peg Ferraro. It was Greta Browne, the Green Party's former candidate for congress. She did not seem persuaded by DePaul's argument that no one in her office could handle a group of Nazareth residents, although we are a motley crew.

And today, the ET editorial board nailed this right on the head. DePaul needs to get her act together or step aside for someone who will. And our state reps and senators need to help us put pressure on the Department of State to find out what the hell is going on with those touchscreen machines.

Thanks for your blog post.

This is one of those issues that goes right past most people and the media most of the time until there is a crisis at the voting booth and the integrity of the election is questioned.

We can't afford to have that happen.

I applaud the committee, yourself, and everyone else who are taking their time to ensure this office has its act together.
