Petition Challenge in Magistrate Race

Joe Nixon of the Morning Call reports today (read the article here) that the nominating petition of Magistrate candidate "Linda Morone Silfies of East Allen Township are being challenged in court by Rodney and Eileen Applegate of E. Walnut Street, Nazareth. Rodney Applegate is a Democratic committeeman in Nazareth."

He further reports that Silfies acquired 110 signatures (100 minimum were needed) and 30 were invalid as they were either from the wrong party or no party at all.

Silfies in court noted that the signatures were gained in good faith and she trusted people signing were honest when noting their party affiliation and voter status.

At the Resident to Candidate meeting held in Nazareth, both party chairs emphasized the need for candidates to get many more signatures than needed for this very reason.

The judge has not yet rule if Silfies will be eligible to be on the ballot in the Democratic Primary.
