NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION
DCNR/Lehigh Valley Greenways and Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center is sponsoring “Sky Dance at Jacobsburg” on Friday, April 20th from 8:00-9:00 p.m. No, it’s not a hoedown! The “sky dance” is what the famous conservationist, Aldo Leopold, called the spring flight of the American Woodcock. A member of the shorebird family, the woodcock uses its long bill to probe the mud for earthworms, its favorite food. Unfortunately, development is encroaching on the last remaining woodcock habitat in the Lehigh Valley and Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center is one of their last strongholds.
Join us for this special evening to observe male woodcocks displaying. Learn how Jacobsburg is managing for woodcock habitat and what you can do to preserve habitat for this special bird and other wildlife. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars.
Registration is required. To register, contact Rick Wiltraut at (610) 746-2810 or email at rwiltraut@state.pa.us
