County Considers Several New Building Projects

In an article in the Express-Times (read it here) it is noted that Northampton County is considering several new building projects including a new Prison, Parking Deck, and Administration building/office space.

The Prison has been at or over capacity, was recently expanded, and the question now is to add again or build new. Consideration is being given to a non-violent offender center that could be lower-security and thereby lower cost.

The parking deck that exists could have a level added to it, or an altogether new deck could be built.

The administration is eyeing the Gracedale campus as a possible location for a new office location.

Building one, two, or all three will come with a cost and many believe the only way to pay for these projects will be with a new bond issue.

It has been noted previously that the County is looking to a reassessment and it was also considering a reassessment each time a home was sold so the highest value could be taxed by the school district and county. Regardless of the approach, it would seem the county tax bill will soon be rising to address their building plans.
