Lower Nazareth Ambulance Policy Change

The Express-Times has an article on the changes the Loewr Nazareth Ambulance Corps. has implemented following the identification of its treasurer having embezzled funds from the Corps (read the article here).

The article opens:
Township and ambulance corps officials say the public should not lose confidence in the Hecktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps' operations after a former treasurer was accused of stealing more than $2,500.

Cheryl Oblick used 18 corps checks to pay personal bills between May 2006 and February 2007, Colonial Regional police said.

Officials from ambulance corps are then quoted as saying that the removal of Oblick resolves the problem and the public should not lose confidence or trust in the organization.

At the end of the article the issue of revenue and donations is addressed. It notes that the corps relies on donations as much as reimbursement.

So far, what I've read in newspaper reports Oblick has only been charged with writing corps. checks to pay for personal needs.

I wonder to what extent Oblick deposited donations received into the Corps. account?

In speaking with a few people about this, one noted that they were not acknowledged by name in the Corps. thank you to its donors this past year. The individual did make a donation during the year. Clerical error, timing, or maybe the money never made it into the corps account - it is definitely something worth the corps investigation.

Unfortunately, we may never know the extent of this. A lot of donations are made in the form of cash. Who is to say that all of that made it into the Corps coffers?

Nor can we say for how many years.

The part that bothers me the most is this persons statement that she didn't view it as severe.

How can that be? She stole money for her personal use that wasn't hers.

To say it wasn't severe blows my mind. What does this say about her character? It's okay to take what is not yours as long as it isn't a lot?

Sorry, the real world doesn't work that way.

I do have to say I feel for her family in that they now have to live in a community that will always know that their mom/wife stole.

Well, maybe you ought to go back and read the article again. I believe she never made the statement that is wasn't severe. Lets also remember who were making statements in the express times. A person who is an ex-convict, who was also a cop convicted of arson. From what I know of this women she has never been in trouble before and has been a very dedicated citizen up until this point. We also do not know the circumstances leading this women to do this. Oh and by the way if I am not mistaken in the express times the ambulance corp states that they do not rely on their donations. WHat does that say for all those other corps and fire companies that do.

Obviously the person who commented to stick up for her is her or someone close to her, how can anyone justify stealing from anyone??? Pure ignorance. She should be made to pay it all back with interest not to mention not be allowed to be in any kind of group that uses fundraising which I know for a fact she does and when I know she is in charge of the money I never make a purchase she is NOT a trustworthy person and trust me she lives quite well and has money she just didn't want to have to use her own to pay her bills must be nice. If she has such a horrible life she has to steal tell me how she is going on vacation then huh??? The real kicker when she won the jackpot from the 50/50 drawing at Soundfest luck or was fate pushed a little?????? I don't believe it was luck and I did not clap.

As a comment to concerned mom, it seems to me she thinks she knows a lot about the Oblick family, well I don't think so. Unless you know the whole story behind what happened at the ambulance corp, it is probably best not to comment. When it comes to fundraisers, you can ask anyone that Mrs. Oblick is never questioned because everything is turned in appropriately. She herself backed away from doing things with various organizations so that there would not be a question. And just for anyones information she had made full restitution and also some charges were dropped because they were found to be inaccurate and unfounded. Do not always believe everything you read in the papers.
