Crime Report

At last night's Council meeting resident Becky Butz questioned the number of crimes in the borough for June and July, then noted only one article was written about them.

The concern is to make residents aware in the case of burglary, theft, break-ins of property or vehicle so they are vigilant and possibly more observant.

Today both the Express-Times and Morning Call had stories from Lower Nazareth and Bushkill Townships related to recent crime and more vandalism (read about graffiti in Lower Nazareth here, Upper Nazareth here, and vandalism in the Borough here).

  • The Express-Times reports (read the article here) that ten homes and a bridge had swastikas and racial slurs spray painted on them in Bushkill Township in the area of Golden Eagle and Beaver Run Roads. Bushkill Township police ask anyone with information to call 610-759-9588.
  • The Morning Call reports (read the article here) that two men were arrested in Lower Nazareth Township outside Regal Cinemas for possessing one bag of cocaine and sixteen bags of marijuana along with a .22 caliber handgun with the ID altered/removed.
  • The Morning Call reports (read the article here) that three women over the past six weeks have had credit cards stolen from purses while watching movies at Regal Cinema. Anyone with information on the thefts may call police at 610-837-4557. (read about previous similar thefts here)

Wow. All the comments that were posted for the skateboarders and yet no comments for why Nazareth
does not post crimes in the paper.
Just in my neighborhood we have broken car windows and theft of quoit boards and kids scooters.

Concerned,

From what I can tell, people (community leaders and the community in general) want to keep Nazareth area crime our dirty little secret. Other than Ross posting the topics and myself and one or two others commenting, the silence has been deafening.

Two restaurants in Nazareth were robbed on the same night a few weeks back, not a word was said on this site.

A couple thousand dollars were embezzled from the Hecktown Ambulance coffers by one of its members, not a word was said on this site.

Multiple cars were vandalized at Wal-Mart parking lot, not a word was said on this site.

All the crime reported in this current post, and you are the only one that asked the right question.

Skaters leave some garbage behind, it is time to call the SWAT team, mobilize the National Guard and declare a state of emergency.

Where is Bowers now? He was quick to shut down the skate park due to garbage. Where is his concern over crime?

How about the poster that has created a blog site to talk about and "monitor" the state of the skate park with pictures? Where is his town watch? Why isn't he monitoring and taking pictures downtown to deter criminal?

My guess is the powers that be want to give the impression that Nazareth is paradise on earth and that all is well here. The only fly in the ointment is the skaters that are (I am guessing in their opinion), a blight on our perfect society because they can been seen and not covered up by not talking about them (like they do with crime).

Now, if we could convince the criminals to perform all their acts while riding skateboards, we might actually be able to get some action from our leaders and the community to pay attention.
