School Board Meeting Tonight

The Nazareth Area School Board will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. and the agenda has been posted (view it here - PDF).

There is also a meeting of the Nazareth Downtown Association at 7:00 p.m. at the Nazareth YMCA.

The School Board agenda did not seem to have much of significant interest. Several administrators are seeking approval to attend conferences and several groups have made requests to use school facilities.

I think it would be interesting to know how many of the individuals seeking conference approval first sought funds from the Blue Eagle Education Foundation that the school supports to provide funds for education of staff and students.

In the area of enrollment, it appears that Bushkill and Shafer 5th grade classes will be given consideration for an additional teacher.

A few other points in this area. The total enrollment is 4758, up only 58 students over September of 2006 and up 45 over June of 2007. Good news is that does not seem to indicate significant growth.

Further grades K-2 total 937 students compared to 1244 in 10-12 and there isn't a class over 350 in any of the elementary grades whereas in 6th and over they are all over 350 with four topping 400 (and one more close to doing so).

The new Middle School building, scheduled to open in 2009 would have 711 students if it opened today (5th and 6th grade) and 675 if it opens in 2010. The building will have a capacity to accommodate 1340.

take a look ta the current K enrollment

237 K kids for all three schools

330+ per class in the 1st, 2nd and on up grades

indicating a trend in declining NASD enrollment?

the $ per student expenditure could be unprecendented if that trend continues

oops
284 for K kids

321 for 1st and 330+ for 2nd on up

still indicates 10%+ less kids for K

Is it a lower number in Kindergarten compared to other years? Kindergarten may always be lower because finding childcare to accomodate a partial day schedule is difficult - so some families opt for private Kindergartens.

The exact numbers were at the end of the agenda (link above in the post) but as I recall from 5th grade down to K each grade was smaller. 5 bigger than 4, 4 bigger than 3 and so on.
