Full Day K at Shafer

The Morning Call reports on the full day K program at Nazareth's Shafer Elementary (read it here) and on a larger scale discusses its application more broadly across the Lehigh Valley and state.

While there are space and cost issues most point first to the academic benefit. Previously I wrote and noted a report from the RAND Corporation that drew some conclusions counter to the common perception of all-day K being beneficial to students (read the post with link to the report here).

I'm not going to rehash the debate, but if the district is looking to expand this program it ought to consider all aspects including reports like the RAND Corporation's, particularly in light of our budget challenges and space needs.
