Roth previously served as MS principal, vice-principal, and prior to that taught MS social studies all within the NASD.
While I'm quite certain the NASD will look to fill this position, given tough budget times, it might first be worth a look to see if there couldn't be some administrative consolidation that could result in a position being eliminated.
Within the educational side (as opposed to buildings etc) we have an:
- Assistant Superintendent for Educational Programs
- Director of Curriculum
- Director of Pupil Services
- Supervisor of Special Education
- Director of Educational Technology
All of these individuals have a role in curriculum and the more administrative hierarchy you build, the greater the loss of efficiency due to bureaucracy.
What do you think? Is this an opportunity to reduce administrative overhead? Or do we need the administrative support at least as it exists if not moreso?

I find concern in the fact that we have had 2 people in this position in just over 3 years...I know most will think that higher salaries made the 2 people look for other employment opportunities, but I would bet there is another element in their departures. Anyone care to guess?
This Admin processes positions like robots......empty, fill, empty, fill....c'mon. I would really like to see someone, anyone on the School Board take initiative, really evaluate the need for this position, and possibly eliminate it (whoa, I said it, yep, ELIMINATE-a big 4 syllable word). Repeat after me....ELIMINATE....see, it's not so bad.
How about not fill it for a year and see where we are then? I can predict where we'll be....about $100K saved and lots of happy taxpayers!
And I'd still like to know what the Director of Personnel does with the time that she must now have since we created the Director of Transportation position. I say give her the Curriculum responsibilities. And might I suggest not giving her a pay increase because, after all, when the transportation part of her job went to the newly created position, there was no pay cut!
Then again, this would be the RIGHT thing to do.
