Happy Thanksgiving!

Reflection is significant at both Thanksgiving and New Years. At Thanksgiving we consider the things we are thankful for and at New Year's we tend to resolve what we want to do, or do better, in the coming year after reflecting on what we did or didn't do the year before.

On this day, when I look back, my thanks are simple. I am thankful for my family, good health, and well-being.

For this site and across the community, I am thankful that so many people care about the quality of life in Nazareth, because it has a direct impact on my family and our well-being as well as that of every other resident. While we may not always all agree on how to improve the community or when we do how to accomplish our goals, we are able to work together to resolve these differences for the betterment of the whole.

I am thankful that the difficult issues of 2006 and early 2007 are now behind us, such as the Teacher's Contract, decision to build a MS, decision to raise school taxes (though that is coming again soon), decision to purchase a new Borough Municipal building, build a Skate Park, and hire a Police Chief.

I am more thankful that in the wake of these challenging decisions many residents have come together and become more involved in the community either by being more aware of what is happening or by actively engaging their time and energy with service groups and organizations or on Boards and Commissions.

From concerts to the tree lighting to the walking tours and the open house, as the holiday season begins there will be many opportunities for people to enjoy Nazareth on foot. Take part in these activities and imagine the possibilities for our community. Then consider getting more involved yourself and at New Years resolve to help improve where you live as best you can. Doing so will connect you with neighbors, make you new friends, and provide you with even more to be thankful for next year.

Best wishes to all over this Thanksgiving Holiday - and as always, thanks for reading and contributing to NewsOverCoffee!
