I'm wondering if anyone has any information on the intersection at 191 and Jandy Blvd. I've been meaning to post this for a week or so, and viewing some near misses forced me to get it done.
My guess:
An accident resulted in the light being knocked down (laying on the ground by the former Brown-Daub dealership, now an empty lot), putting the four way out of commission. Since the light was probably paid by the Jandy Development Group and is on a PADOT intersection, Lower Nazareth probably hasn't jumped in to fix it. I'd also have to believe there would also be insurance involved as someone ought to be responsible for knocking it out.
Finally while all these parties try to figure out who is going to pay, the simple solution is bag the lights and make it a four way stop.
The Problem:
This is much more than a four way stop. Southbound can have three cars wide, left, straight, and right into Giant. Northbound also three, left into Giant, straight, or right onto Jandy. Westbound has two lanes left or straight in one and right in the other. Eastbound has two lanes left or straight and right.
Together you could have up to ten cars at the same four way stop at the same time.
I don't know if there have been any accidents since making it a stop, but if not I'd imagine it is only a matter of time.
Let's hope this traffic light gets fixed soon.
Any "real" information anyone can share would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I too would love to know what is going on. I was there this week end with 6 cars and very near accident. Who do we contact voice our concerns about the intersection, lower Nazareth? I think we should all call and voice our concerns.
We were in CVS this weekend and the Mgr said that someone hit the pole. Supposedly we are on the states list. Perhaps Nazareth is not a priority for the state.
I would like to know why a 4-way stop is so hard for people to handle? Did we not all read the drivers' handbook? Take the same test? It is about courtesy and tolerence really... We just need to chill and everything will be ok. Getting somewhere 5' ahead of the person in front of you will not make that big of a difference!!!
On a separate note ... I saw the second accident in less than a month down in the area where you make a left turn onto Liberty or Victory Lane towards the school campuses.
People slow down! Especially when there are wet conditions. Nothing serious, but a huge inconvenience to those involved I am sure.
Along those line, would it be worth a call to Waste Management to ask them to redesign their routes so that they arenn't in the areas between 7:15 - 8:15 a.m. and 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. They make a bad situation worse and it would seem there are plenty of other parts of the borough that could be serviced during those hours.
At first I thought you meant the 191 and 248 intersection (by tthe Pizza Hut and Nazareth Diner). Now that the road south of that intersection connects with Jandy, cars heading south on 191 turning left onto 248 can wait forever (seemingly) to try to make that left. The town really needs to put in a left turn arrow, like the southbound light on 248 (with left arrrow for 191 northbound).
Or do they have a quota for accidents and deaths before they can do that?
My guess is that with the accident, someone realized what a bonehead move it was to change the lights at this intersection.
Before Jandy Blvd. went through, there was a left turn arrow from 191 into the Giant parking lot. When the intersection openned up, they put turn arrows out of Giant on Jandy, but took them away from 191, making it very difficult for anyone to turn left.
Of course, instead of doing it right the first time, in true government fashion, we wait until we have a few accidents then pay again to fix stupidity.
Bear with me, I'd been meaning to jump in and time got away from me so I'm blurting it all out at once;-)
The intersection at Jandy and 191 as one person mentioned is probably in the hands of PADOT at least partially.
The intersection at 191 and 248 (Pizza Hut) is most likely all PADOT. Not only can cars traveling southbound often not make the left, but cars on 248 traveling west trying to turn left onto Broad have about three seconds of left turn arrow then they sit. I've seen many go despite cars making the right from the other direction because they are sick of waiting nearly causing an accident everytime.
Both are a problem.
Jeannette - I think a traditional four way stop is not a problem (except in the borough where people don't actually stop but more likely roll or drive through) because at most four vehicles are involved. At Jandy, with turn lanes, you could have ten cars all at once. Clearly not designed for stop signs.
I agree that people need to be less aggressive and pay more attention.
To that end, yesterday morning we came upon the accident mentioned at Tatamy Road and Liberty/Victory Lane. Car turning left from Tatamy road rear-ended by another. I've seen many near misses there on our morning walk to school. The problem, not paying attention.
Then, I saw a car yield to pedestrians. It was a little after six and two people were on the corner at St. John's church on Broad Street (red doors) and a car on Broad stopped allowing them to cross. It is supposed to work that way, but I've not witnessed it since I started posting on walking in town. Even at stop signs most cars don't yield to pedestrians. This driver did it without one - way to go!
Finally, and I don't recall for sure, but I thought the lights at 191 and Jandy were staggered so people could make the left without a turn arrow. Maybe that was only on Jandy to 191 not the other way around - then again guess we can't check now as there is no light at all.
Thanks for all the comments and input.
Ross,
The left turn arrows are only for the people turning ON to 191 (from either Jandy Blvd. or out of the Giant parking lot). There is no such provision for those ON 191 turning on to Jandy or into Giant. It used to be the other way.
