New Holiday Tradition...

Thanks to Karen at the YMCA for forwarding this announcement:

The first Pumpkin Pie 5K Run and Fun Walk sponsored by the Nazareth YMCA will take place on Thanksgiving Day. The race will begin at 9:00 a.m.

More than 250 runners have pre-registered for the race. “With such a significant pre-entry, we hope to have as many as 400 runners that day,” says Susan Jarvis, member of the YMCA Board of Directors and 5K Run Committee. Registrations will be accepted until 8:45 a.m. on the day of the race. Registration information is available at the Nazareth YMCA website at www.nazarethymca.org/5K

The course will take runners through the borough and the gardens section of Nazareth. Main Street will be closed from Chestnut Street to Belvidere Street, as will all entrances to the circle. A course map is available at the web address listed above.

The committee is still seeking volunteers to help with registrations and serve as course marshals. Anyone interested in volunteering that day can contact Susan Jarvis at 610 759-4056

If something is "new" it can't be considered a "tradition."

Alright, so it wasn't my most creative title, but I'd promised I'd get it posted and I got it in despite a real busy few days for me.

To your point though, Google shows over 4,000,000 results for "New Holiday Tradition" (and I'm pleased to say NOC's post is number 3 on that list), so I'd guess right or wrong the consensus is that the phraseology is understood, and thereby effective.

Now break through the language barrier, pull the old running shoes out from the closet, and support the Y!

I won't be able to run this year, but it's definitely on my list for next year!

In other YMCA news, they have the approval to open at 5:30 a.m. (instead of the current opening time at 6:30 a.m.) but need to find people to work those hours. If anyone is looking for a part-time job that has (or can get) CPR, AED & O2 certifications, they should contact Frank Frey, Executive Director of the Nazareth YMCA. Their telephone number is 610-759-3440.

This is HUGE for a first time race - so it should be very exciting! For those of you who live in the Boro or the Gardens - I'd suggest checking out the map and planning your morning accordingly - you might find your street is blocked off for awhile. And everyone remember to be careful driving so the runners are safe.
