Post Ice Storm Articles and Comments

The Express-Times has a nice post that ties together quite a few items from last weekends ice storm (read it here), including many items mentioned here:
  • Clearing ice from your car before driving
  • Upper Nazareth's unplowed neighborhood
  • Sledding (careening out of control) on ice fields at Borough Park
  • Clearing sidewalks (though an Easton story not based in Nazareth)
The final item came up in the post on closing school and subsequent comments. I recognize that the snow turned to ice, but property owners who failed to even attempt to clear their walks five days after the snowfall should be fined.

Since the snow became a sheet of ice, pedestrians really have no option other than to walk in the street when property owners fail to clear their walks. This creates a serious danger. I couldn't imagine people don't know they are obligated to do this, but in this storm it would appear they chose not to out of personal convenience causing others to be at risk and inconvenienced. Kind of like those who didn't clear the ice from their vehicles.

I get a little irked by people who don't spend $4 on a bag of salt to melt the ice on public sidewalks.
