The Express-Times reports that Nazareth is ready to install the interactive white boards they purchased as a result of a state grant (read the article here). A Classrooms for the Future grant was given to Nazareth in the amount of $337,000.
The article does not say if the entire sum went to the purchase or if other items were included. Nor did it indicate how many will be installed, in what grades, and for what courses.
Having technology is one thing, but using it effectively is an entirely different ballgame.
The teachers whose classrooms will have interactive whiteboards are going to have a lot of extra work - from learning how to fundamentally use the product, to determining the best ways to teach using it. This will require re-writing lesson plans and rethinking how one teaches.
My concern is in regard to what extent these teachers are going to be supported to do so vs. how much is 'up to them' and on their own time. Planning time was an issue in the contract and for these individuals there is going to be a tremendous amount of extra work.
Here is one example of what is possible (A Clean Slate).
The implementation and use should be interesting to follow.
