Presidential Election

While not exactly local, obviously the 2008 Presidential Election will have an impact on everyone and as a slow news Sunday, I thought I'd toss out the questions:
  • What issues are most important to you?
  • And who do you like at this point in time?
I've added links to sites that address the candidates and campaigns - under this section.

For me (and not necessarily in order) I think foreign policy, healthcare, and education are very important and so too is government reform, which includes the tax code and reducing bureaucracy.

Of the candidates, and I've not gone real deep in studying anyone it seems Mike Huckabee and John McCain on the Republican side and Barak Obama on the Democratic side are most appealing to me. Rudy Giuliani made a great turnaround of NYC and demonstrated leadership, but his campaign hasn't seemed to take off.

The wonkosphere buzz meter supports this assessment as Rudy is way behind Clinton, Obama, and McCain.

So back to the questions - what is most important to you in this election and who do you like?

I am looking for a candidate that will take this nation back to the positions of the Founding Fathers. They established a representative republic that was to be small. States rights were very important and indeed the idea was for the states to experiment with projects and the best would be come the standard for the rest of the country. We are a nation of 300 million and fifty states. We have a Federal Government filled with individuals who believe that they can make policy that will cover all of us. We all know that is not reality.
I was a big fan of Fred Thompson because he said he did not want to be president. Now what he meant by that was that he was not going to get up every morning, realize that he was president and then try to figure out what he was going to do for us. Stay out of my life. A quick example is this so called stimulus package. When the Fed announced the rate cut yesterday futures actually went down. The $800 is nothing but vote buying by both parties and it re-enforces our already bad behavior of spending instead of saving and investing.
So who is my candidate. After Florida, I think McCain, Rudy and Mitt will be standing. Huck is out of it and he has no money. We will have to wait until after Super Tuesday but I believe that Mitt and McCain will be standing. I believe that Mitt will be the Republican candidate and President. Romney has a lot going for him. He is a smart guy and has worked in business for many years. He has a lot more experience than all the Dems combined. He is pro-life and will stop illegal immigration. I, personally, would stop all immigration for 10 years. We need to assimilate.
I think he would look at the real problem with health care and that is catastrophic insurance that would cover the big items like heart transplants. I hope he moves toward medical savings plans and keep health insurance private. National health care will kill us ecomomically. I believe he will cut taxes again and he will lower both the corporate tax and capital gains tax. I think he will move to eliminate the estate tax and I hope he bombs the Department of Eduacation and puts that matter back in the hands of the local people--no 11 million dollar pool then. I do not like McCain. I think there is really a nasty person with a temper under there. But he gave us amnesty for illegals, cut our free speech with McCain-Feingold. Worked with Ted Kennedy--that in and by itself should be the death knell for any Republican and he wants national health care. McCain has stood up to stop earmarks but I believe Romney will do that also.
I could vote for Rudy but he is pro-abortion. I like his feisty manner. I am going to make sure that I do not vote for a neo-conservative and a globalist. I like the US and do not want to unite with Canada and Mexico ever.
We have a lot to do in this nation. We have lost our commom sense. We provide condoms at schools for kids. We are taxing ourselves to death and are asking for more programs. We need to double the size of our military and that would not include counting the guard and reserves. With out the military we will have nothing because we cannot defend ourselves. The hordes are waiting on out borders. Now is not the time to go wobbly.
As for the Democrats. well Hillary will be the candidate. Pray daily that she does not become president because this is not only a woman dependent on her husband, she is a truly evil person and is interested in one thing only, the ascendency of Hillary Clinton.
