Saw that Brad Moulton had a letter to the editor published in the Morning Call (read it here) related to school spending and the Costing-Out Study.
In essence this study recommends an appropriate amount to spend per student that will in fact educate the students.
It is almost hard to believe this is even being promoted. We know from years of government spending that while programs require support - in concept, solution, staff, and money, you can't simply spend more money and expect better results.
If you are spending the right amount and not getting the result you expect the lack of results could and probably is, the result of some other failure. By ignoring this and spending more money you are only wasting the money without addressing the problem.

Thank you Brad for an excellent letter. We can only hope that the folks catch on that throwing good money after bad does not solve this problem.
to me the ? that needs to be addressed is the % of $ that goes directly into the classroom and the % that goes elsewhere
until we can compare these stats it seems comparing districts $ spending is useless
