Newspapers Report on Bomb Threat at MS

Both the Express-Times (read it here) and the Morning Call (read it here) reported on the bomb threat that evacuated Nazareth MS yesterday.

The Express-Times reported that a message was written on a bathroom wall reading, "bomb in school."

From finding the note to returning students to class occurred between 9:10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

The Express-Times also noted a K-9 dog was brought in from Lehigh Valley International Airport.

This is the second threat in recent weeks. I don't know if they caught the person in either case, but it would be nice if a fairly hefty penalty could be applied when they do catch people making bomb threats. I'm thinking a basic fine plus reimbursing all emergency management costs (and I'm including hourly wages in this) to start.

What do you think?

I LIKE YOUR IDEA OF A FINE AND SOME SORT OF REIMBURSEMENT AS LONG AS THE CHILD IS THE ONE TO PAY UP AND NOT HIS/HER PARENTS. I ALSO THINK SOME COMMUNITY SERVICE WOULD DO SOME GOOD. THEN THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME PSYCHIATRIC COUNSELING BECAUSE SOMETHING IS JUST NOT RIGHT WITH SOMEONE WHO GETS A KICK OUT OF STUFF LIKE THIS. WHETHER THEY DID IT BECAUSE THEY THEMSELVES WANTED TO OR THEY DID IT ON A DARE FROM FRIENDS THEY NEED TO KNOW THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES THAT THEY NOW HAVE TO FACE. WE HAD BOMB THREATS WHEN I WENT TO SCHOOL, WAY BACK WHEN, AND WE JUST WENT ABOUT OUR DAY BASICALLY WITH NO INTERRUPTION. IN TODAY'S TIMES THOUGH, THIS STUFF IS SCAREY AND YOU CAN'T JUST BRUSH IT OFF.

I don't think a fine and/or reimbursement is enough. We are living in Post 9/11 times; bomb threats are NOT acceptable behavior. The person(s) responsible should be punished. Community Service and Probation are a good start. This is not funny and needs to be stopped.
