NJ Laments Loss of Warehouses to PA

The Newark Star-Ledger has an article lamenting NJ's loss of warehouses to PA and specifically cites the BMW facility moving to Lower Nazareth (read the article here).

The article identifies jobs lost in NJ and its role in warehousing.

It is interesting that locally many have opposed this form of business, yet it is deemed a significant set-back to those who are losing them.

..possibly because, in the end, what are we (Newark being the model here) left with? A landscape of empty warehouses and urban neglect.

As urban sprawl gives way, is this a glance into our future? Maybe not in our lifetime, however the decision for future generations is being made now.

I grew up around the corner from there. I went small game hunting in those fields. Somehow, a Walmart, Wegmans, a BMW warehouse or whatever tarnish a lifetime of memories. Memories of nature — clean air, tall grass fields, corn growing in the summer, autumn leaves falling as the sun sets over a farm row of trees.

Not to get all greenpeace here, but in my opinion, with every new strip mall, warehouse, industrial park we're loosing more than we're gaining.

Change can be an ugly beast, a nostalgia killer at best.
