MEMORIAL LIBRARY OF NAZARETH & VICINITY

TO CELEBRATE THIRD ANNUAL

NATIONAL LIBRARY WORKERS DAY

Nazareth, PA – The Memorial Library of Nazareth will celebrate “National Library Workers Day” on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, during National Library Week. The event will be held in conjunction with the American Library Association-Allied Professional Association’s (ALA-APA) national celebration. National Library Workers Day is a time to honor the contributions of all library workers, including librarians, support staff and others who make library services possible.

Library workers are responsible for a wide variety of services that patrons come to expect from their libraries. They are in charge of more than just checking books in and out of the library. Library workers conduct storyhours, catalog materials; handle reference and interlibrary loan requests; answer phone calls and emails; organize programs and events; administer computer networks; update the library’s Website; select and obtain books, CDs, videos, and databases; and much more.

The Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity works because we do,” says Lynn Snodgrass-Pilla, Library Director. “We’re the people opening the doors, shoveling the walk, fixing the printers, and selecting materials that serve this community the best. Not only do we make sure the library runs smoothly, we also protect user privacy, fight against censorship and ensure that all people have access to the information and library resources they need when they need it.”

In recognition of Library Workers Day, the Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity is holding an open house and “behind the scenes” tour on April 15, 2008 at 11 am to introduce library users to those men and women who make sure that their library experience is a positive one. Stop by and say thanks to your library’s employees throughout the day.

Library Workers Day is also a great time to learn about the type of jobs held by library employees, especially if people are interested in a new or second career,” adds John Reinhart Library Board President. We want people to know that we work @ your library and we love and take pride in what we do.”
