Local Mother TO Raise Awareness Among Nazareth Elementary Staff and Youth ON LIVESTRONG DAY 2008

Nazareth, PA May 12, 2008 On May 13, 2008, Nazareth mother of two and cancer caregiver/advocate, Sally Santi, will join the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) to unite people affected by cancer and raise awareness about cancer issues at Floyd R. Shafer elementary school.

The event organized by Santi is one of 500 local LIVESTRONG Day events to be held across the country to engage communities with experiences that increase awareness and show support for cancer survivors and their loved ones.   A personal video message by Lance Armstrong will be viewed by the children during the morning "school news" and youth wristbands will be distributed to over 700 students at Shafer. The teachers and staff, dressed in yellow, will also be given a wristband for themselves as well as a LIVESTRONG car magnet.

"Participating in LIVESTRONG Day is important to me because cancer does not discriminate by age. Too many local youth are being affected by the illness," said Santi. "It is an honor to have the opportunity to support cancer survivors and encourage youth in Nazareth to unite together to end the needless death and suffering from the disease that affects more than 1.39 million people in the U.S. each year, according to the "National Cancer Facts" on the www.livestrong.org It went on to state that "Pennsylvania has the fourth highest overall cancer incidence rate among the 50 states and the District of Columbia."

Last year, Santi was one of the approximately 200 LAF delegates to have advocated in Washington, D.C., to demand that our nation's leaders invest in resources, treatment and services for people affected by cancer and to emphasize the importance of making cancer a national priority. This year the foundation has decided to shift the focus from legislators and lobbyists to the American people in their local communities. We believe that by uniting people in the fight against cancer we will remind our decision-makers that their constituents care about cancer and demand change.
