More on Melosky

Without a day of practice, and the first one won't officially come until August, Nazareth's new head varsity football coach is in the news again.

Both the Express-Times and The Morning Call have articles on Melosky regarding his current assault trial in Northampton County Court. In the articles it is noted that he has now been warned by the court not to contact the victim or the victim's family, and that additional charges for doing so already are being investigated.

  • Express-Times Pre-Trial 'Breaking News' report (read it here)
  • Express-Times article in which it is noted that NASD felt they did their due diligence on the hiring, that Melosky was 'heads and shoulders' above the other candidates, and that NASD could revisit the hiring following the trial on June 10 (read it here)
  • Morning Call article indicates another investigation is possible regarding the alleged contact (read it here)
  • Morning Call article from print similar to one above (read it here)

Due diligence? It should be called due negligence, or due dereliction of duty. This board rubber stamps whatever and whoever Lesky wants. They are so smart, they just knew he was going to be vindicated. Imagine the lawsuits, that we would have had to shell out for, if this guy got hired and did this to one of our students or athletes while working for us, and it came out they actually knew beforehand of his conduct and arrest. Faculty have stated there have been other hires that have followed this same pattern, including one of an administrator who was found out by none other than a relative of a school board member (who subsequently voted to confirm hire anyway)to have been run out of at least one other school district for conduct that would get someone fired on the spot in the private sector. When this information was brought to the good Dr.'s attention, the teachers involved allegedly were warned to stop looking into it. This coach is purported to be at least an acquaintance of that administrator...

The current charges against Mr. Melosky are serious, but not nearly as serious as the ones that allegedly cost him his job at Parkland. The details seem to be common knowledge around the Parkland area and have filtered eastward to the Nazareth area. If they are true, this man should not be allowed anywhere NEAR a school, let alone employed here! No coach takes a team to the state championship just two years before being asked to leave unless the charges are serious. Maybe we should have looked into these allegations in addition to the current charges which are public. I understand that some of the other applicants, while not as "high profile" were certainly qualified to turn our program around without exposing our school district to a lawsuit if something happens down the road.

I may not like the tactics that Lesky uses, but if Melosky is going to remain the coach (and it appears that is the case), a team of young men who work hard and have alot of heart need the community's support.

Besides, after Nazareth football starts winning games, everyone will forget the media frenzy that surrounded Melosky's initial hire (and that is what Lesky is counting on and what works for him every time)...

Yes, if we have a winning team, most likely people will forget, that is until he either slaps some kid around or does who know what else.

The administration has positioned our district for a major lawsuit if this loose cannon once again rolls around the deck.

The smart move would have been to hire a coach with a longer fuse.

Sorry, but Lesky doesn't care about a lawsuit. He will spend the district's money until its gone because he will defend his employees and maybe even find new positions for them. A great example is the Director of Transportation. Interesting that the individual who received that job was involved in a lawsuit in which Lesky defended her actions that probably cost the district over 100 grand...
