From the agenda, I noticed a second reading of the revision of the following policies, what I haven't noticed are attachments of said policies indicating the changes as is often included in the agenda document (the first reading was 7/18/08 and there was no copy with them as well):
Second Reading of District Policy 103, Nondiscrimination in School and Classroom Practices; 207, Confidential Communications of Students; 218, Student Discipline; 220, Student Expression; 221, Dress and Grooming; 226, Searches; 233, Suspension and Expulsion; 235, Student Rights/Responsibilities; 246, Student Wellness; and, 807, Opening Exercises. No Board Action is required on this item at this time.I could imagine a few controversies given teens and "expression", "dress and grooming", searches", student rights", and "Opening Exercises", which I am guessing has to do with homeroom and the Pledge.
Also noticed two facility use requests - each requesting a waiver of fees. Did anyone attend the meeting (or last one) to know if the district is waiving fees on request?
Finally, more sports upgrades - the baseball at field at Borough Park, under contract to the school and principally used only by the school and Legion, will receive new sod in the infield at a cost of $7,700. Not nearly the most expensive of upgrades to the athletic facilities, but yet another in a long recent list of improvements.

The football forum on express-times has a post that Nazareth is hiring Melosky as a teacher soon.
Now, I know you can't believe some of those posts....but I'm wondering.....could the school board really let him be hired??
At this point would it surprise you?
There is a health/phys.ed position open. It was posted, then quickly removed, leaving the possibility open that it was being given to him.
I don't think we should hire him on the basis of his being the new football coach.
Look at our recent track record. Madson was in for a handful of seasons, got a promotion to asst. principal, resigned (what four years). Williams came over, was granted his full years experience, came in at top of pay scale, spent what four seasons, then returned home with a huge pension to retire on thanks to us. Gerhart got a position at the school and resigned to coach at Northampton, he since left.
No offense to the individuals, but they use the coaching to get a paid day job and move on when something better is made available (again nothing wrong with that, people do it all the time in the private sector). Given this track record, and understanding, why not hire the best available teacher and if a person doesn't want to coach because they don't get a job with it - so be it.
NOC - Why aren't you on our school board?
I gotta agree with bocarex. Have you considered?
What? And give this up?
Obviously I'm interested in what is going on locally. With kids in the school, I'm personally concerned with the quality of education while also wanting to ensure taxes aren't raised too high because of the impact on residents, but especially those on fixed incomes.
When it comes to serving on School Board, it is honestly not anything I've ever wanted to do.
Maybe having worked at the school and being required to attend meetings has resulted in a feeling of aversion toward it today.
If I were to seek a public office, I'd be more inclined to run for borough council than school board.
Having said that, I'm not in a position to do either right now. The time commitment is simply too much given everything else, and frankly, I probably still need some more life experience under my belt to be most effective.
I know, most everyone could make the same argument.
My hope is that by running this site and keeping it going, I'll make a positive contribution that will result in more people getting engaged locally in the way that works best for them, just as I have.
We each need to find our niche, and this site has helped me find my own.
