Wednesday's Power Outage

In the south east portion of the borough where I live, the power went off and on a few times just after dinner then stayed out for several hours coming on about 8:00.

My older daughter and I had planned to walk up to the library and did. The outage seemed to have sent more people outside last night as we passed many sitting on their porch or taking a walk on what was a very pleasant evening.

At the library we heard a transformer was the issue and the power was out through much of the borough and would remain so for some time. Unfortunately for my daughter, who wasn't quite sure what she wanted to read, the upstairs was closed because it was too dark. She did find a book downstairs in the young adult (?) section (just off the staircase, west side of entranceway), "The Golden Compass". This book was recently made into a movie and is a part of a series. I'm sure once she's done she'll put a review up on the site as she opened up a Goodreads account yesterday and started writing reviews of books she's read recently.

I picked up "The Last Pope" by Luis Miguel Rocha. Written in 2006, this was translated into English this year. A suspense novel centered around the death of John Paul I. (Visit the book club to see reviews on books I've read and soon that my daughter has.)

With our returns made and our new selections in hand we checked out and made our way back home. Again we stopped several times to chat with people as we did making the trip much longer than normal, but very enjoyable. It was great to see so many people outside, walking, and talking with one another.

By the time we finished up a street light came back on, then a porchlight, and the outage was over. I headed down the block past the final couple houses (my daughter couldn't handle one more conversation with a neighbor and left without me) to our house, got the kids to bed (eventually) and called it a night after getting the first chapter of my book read.

I'm in the area near council chambers and the power when out for about 5 seconds at dinner time and then came back on and stayed on. Had no idea that much of the borough had no power.
That explains why I saw all of those portable stop signs near every traffic light on my way through the borough this morning.
