Well, it didn't take long to see first hand the difference between Linux and Windows.
I have for years used MS Money to keep track of my checking. With the system crash I lost the software (probably on the recovery disks), but had the mymoney.mny file on my external drive. I decided to see if there was a Linux system that could import the data.
Within moments I found GNU Cash. I was surprised to learn all I had to do to install it was enter the terminal (two clicks) and type: #apt-get install gnucash
In a minute or so the software was loaded on the machine, ready to go.
By contrast, I found I couldn't use the .mny file from money to import into GNU, so I found the trial software from Microsoft. I entered my personal information, had to agree to accept emails from them, got sent an email, clicked on the email, downloaded the software, installed the software, went back to start to find the file so I could open the software, and when it asked me if I wanted to use a password and I said no it froze. No kidding locked up. Had to use ctrl-alt-delete and then tried restarting. Same deal.
Several more attempts and no luck. Log-off, log back on, no response. Shut down/restart. Locks-up.
I'm taking a recess...
