The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Up until now I’ve kept the book reviews separate, but with my posting by mobile, it is easier to run them right to the main page. I’ll leave the old ones up for anyone that wanders over, or feel free to connect with me on Goodreads.com, where they are all maintained and managed. Now we’ll see how well Posterous.com can render HTML…Finally, if you’re reading something and want to share it – send me an email – editor@newsovercoffee.com

The Last Lecture The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

My rating: 4 of 5 stars Like most everyone else, I knew of the backstory to the book prior to reading. I held off actually reading the book until I was travelling last week and wanted a small book to bring along.I finished the book in one day and loved it. The value of the book, for me, is the perspective you can gain from it (c'mon how bad is your life by comparison?) and attitude (he was positive and productive to the end). This is not a book for those seeking a handout, or wanting things to work without actually working to make them happen. This is also not a specific how-to for every person. Pausch's positive approach is infectious. His accomplishments are impressive. The take-aways for me are not to do whatever Pausch had done, but instead to recognize more universal principles such as you can't accomplish goals without taking a first step, or you can't do it alone - you have to have people help you along the way and you need to help others as well. This book was great and it will definitely be one that I'll have both my girls read when the time is right.
