The Spot to Close?

The Express-Times reports that the Spot may be closing (read the article here).  Owner Michael Yavorski, 52 of Lower Nazareth, was sentenced in October (read that article here) to three months to two years followed by one year of probation.  Yavorski pleaded guilty to indecent assault and corruption of minors.  He admitted to forcing a 12 year old girl to sit on his lap and fondling her after she swam in a pool at his house.

The girl told police:

The girl told police she and Yavorski were swimming at his home when Yavorski tried to force her onto his lap. The girl told police she went to change and Yavorski offered help, which she refused. When she finished changing, Yavorski let her have beer, forced her onto his lap and fondled her, police said.

Now Yavorski is to be released in time to run the Spot.  He is to be accompanied by an adult at all times when working at the stand, but the family has stated they have received so many complaints they may close.

We used to go several times a week during the summer months. No more. I won't take my kids anywhere near that place.

Not sure why you wouldn't take your kids, just don't leave them alone with the man.

He got caught, is serving his time and will have paid his debt to society as determined by the legal system.

Will I stop going? I doubt it. First, the ice cream is good and the prices are reasonable, and second, everyone gets a second chance.

Unfortunately, the owner's problem is shown time and time again to be one that is not corrected by jail time and probation. The incidence of repeat offenses with child molesters is pretty high, so I think I would play it safe. As NR said, it's not like the kids are going to be alone with him there. But, I'd rather spend my money at a place where there is no 'former' child molester working.
