All Day K

The Morning Call now has a report on the All Day K movement in Nazareth and has some follow-up from the Intermediate School complaints raised last month at the school board meeting (read the article here).  Both were from the most recent school board meeting.

I think it is financially irresponsible to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on all day K when our financial position is so bad.  We had a near 10% tax hike last year so the NASD could get more from its tax hike this year.  No they didn’t need all that money, but they were allowed to up the tax hike due to exemptions so they did it.

Now instead of spending it on reducing our debt or more fully supporting existing services, we are going to invest in all day K, based on the success pilot students had on the PSSA.

All day k? What is the cost per value ratio? To me this seems like a way to get free babysitting. If you child is not ready to attend grade K, hold them back or send them to grade K twice. We get slammed enough in Nazareth w/ taxes, we do not need any more. Lets look at cost cutting....its great to give the kids all they want, lets try to focus on what they need to be successful.
