Argentina's controversial first lady Eva Perón is the subject of this dynamic musical masterpiece, guided by the narrative songs of Che (Eric Flyte), a rebellious anti-Perónist.  At fifteen Eva (Katelyn Lauria) escapes her dirt-poor existence for the bright lights of Buenos Aires. Driven by ambition and blessed with charisma, she manipulates a second-rate night club singer Augustine Magaldi (Ryan Skerchak) to achieve stardom by the age of twenty-two. It is at a charity event she meets the future president of Argentina and her future husband Col. Juan Perón (Zach Kessler).  Through her charms she becomes Perón's mistress by displacing his current mistress (Jillian Keller), and eventually marries Perón. She is the driving force behind her husband's campaign for the presidency, establishing herself as “saint to the working-class, reviled by the aristocracy and mistrusted by the military."  Her own aspirations of becoming vice-president are never realized. Evita is stricken with cancer and dies at the age of thirty-three but was destined to leave a fascinating political legacy unique in the 20th century. Told through a compelling score that fuses haunting chorales with exuberant Latin, pop and jazz influences, EVITA creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself.
