Prelim School Budget Approved

The Express-Times reports that the NASD approved the 2010-2011 preliminary school budget of $67.7M this past Monday (read the article here).

Tom Maher voted against the budget and several questions including this one, “We have had an 8.6 percent increase in total enrollment over the past eight years, yet we have a 22.5 percent increase in staffing.”

Maurice Heller followed up on Maher’s point stating “If we’re spending more money and we have less students, I want to know why.”

Every year I make the same point, and did again last month (read the post here), it is nice to see a second person on the Board begin to take notice.  It may be that we have enough staff, but we aren’t efficiently utilizing them.  We did up our staff with the new building choice, but the bump for next year doesn’t make sense considering the building is in operation this year.
