Local Tax Hikes

The Express-Times reports on local municipalities and their budget approvals (read it here), and Nazareth Borough, along with Upper and Lower Nazareth have no tax hikes this year. The Borough has held taxes for five consecutive years. Bushkill Township will have an 8.3% increase.

So far Nazareth Borough has escaped any tax increases on the Borough & County proposed budgets.

This Monday, December 13, at 7:30PM the Nazareth Area School District will present its budget for next year. Anybody want to bet that the "no tax increase" streak is about to end?

I'm guessing initial starting point 7-9% hike, discussion about cutting sports, band, drama, music, then final about 6%.

We did have a pre-emptive hike previously where they raised to the limit and had a surplus so they'd receive larger future funds at the same percentage, so maybe my estimates are high, but they've been pretty consistent.
