NAZARETH AREA FOOD BANK LAUNCHES WEBSITE

NAZARETH, Pa. – February 22, 2011 – The Nazareth Area Food Bank., Inc., today announced it has launched its own web site – www.nazarethareafoodbank.org – as a source of information about the non-profit organization that provides non-perishable food items each month to more than 200 residents of the Nazareth community.

The web site offers basic information about the Food Bank, including hours of operation for the distribution of food to clients and for the donation of food items from the individuals, churches, schools, businesses and other organizations whose contributions sustain the Food Bank.

The Food Bank is a certified tax-exempt, non-profit entity that relies entirely on donations and the work of volunteers to help address hunger in the Nazareth area.  It serves people who live within the six municipalities that comprise the Nazareth Area School District – the boroughs of Nazareth, Stockertown and Tatamy, and Bushkill, Lower Nazareth and Upper Nazareth Townships.

The web site includes links to area churches whose congregations contribute regularly to the Food Bank, as well as area service clubs, the School District, the Borough of Nazareth, Nazareth Memorial Library and other organizations.

The web site was developed on a volunteer basis by three employees of Martin Guitar – Robin Connolly, Carmen Cortez and Mike Zehner – as part their undergraduate degree program at Muhlenberg College.

“Robin, Carmen and Mike showed great interest in learning as much as they could about our efforts to help people in need and what sort of project they could take on to help us in a major way as an organization,” said Food Bank Director Jim Byrnes.  “We are really indebted to them for finding the means to host and develop the site and for designing what we launched today.  And they did this all on their own time, over discussions at lunch and then after their workdays ended at Martin Guitar.”

Byrnes said evolution of the web site’s development will be ongoing to reflect the Food Bank’s work and needs going forward.  The Food Bank can be contacted by dialing 610-365-8869 or at nazarethareafoodbank@gmail.com.
