Weekly Blogosphere Round-up

Andy was the champ at keeping me up to date on Legion playoffs this season and he monitored all the inaction in Harrsiburg as our Senate and House attempted to finalize a budget.

Clonehenge has a shot of puppy henge (view it here), too cute.

From House to Home worked on cleaning up and renovating her pantry.

Steaming Cup claimed to be reporting vicariously through his 'friend' Herb who was at the shore, but posts from the beach from Monday through Thursday make me think it was Joe who was enjoying the sand, sun and skeeball.

Lehigh Valley Rambling's Bernie O'Hare on County Council: "Now how the hell am I supposed to write a witty and condescending blog about their goofy antics when everyone is behaving? Throw me a frickin' bone, people!" Bernie, if they aren't co-operating, visit the school board meeting - ought to be good stuff there.

Weird Nazareth interviews published author and Nazareth native Scott Morro.

Keeping cool in the summer heat and enjoying some R&R this week were Breakfast in the Valley, Tatamy Happenings and Lower Nazareth Forum.

Weekly Blogosphere Round-up

Andy was covering Basketball, Baseball and the State Budget this week, and with Nazareth advancing in Legion Playoffs, expect more baseball next week.

House to Home was hepped up on fumes after an all day spray paint fest. Several items are highlighted in photographs featuring before and after.

Steaming Cup of Joe addresses the economy. His concern is that the worst economy since the 1930s is stifling innovation. From what I've witnessed as one impacted by the economy along with several co-workers, people get more creative in these times and pursue career paths that they wouldn't have otherwise followed out of fear of the unknown. When you've got nothing to lose because it has all been taken from you - why not? This innovation is what will eventually pull us through, not stimulus money to corporations that have failed for years.

Lehigh Valley Ramblings has lots of posts, but the most interesting to me were from the beginning of the week related to the pre-trial of Tom Severson. Serverson is a political strategist who is under indictment by the Attorney General for this campaign practices. Bernie has several posts outlining the initial hearing. According to Bernie, "These include 12 third-degree felony counts of tampering with public records or information; 12 second-degree misdemeanor counts of false swearing, 12 third-degree misdemeanor counts of false swearing, 12 second-degree misdemeanor counts of unsworn falsification to authorities and five third-degree felony counts of criminal conspiracy. He is also charged with two misdemeanors related to the Election Code."

Weird Nazareth's best piece this week is a lawn ornament safari complete with a three minute slide show of all the front yard ornaments found in Nazareth - recognized more than a few of the pieces myself - great work!

Nothing new this week at Breakfast in the Valley, Clonehenge, Lower Nazareth Citizens or Tatamy Happenings.

Weekly Blogosphere Round-up

I think everyone knows what was being discussed on NOC this week, so now for a look around the rest of the Nazareth Blogosphere and welcome to a new entry on the sidebar - Clonehedge. This site is not about Nazareth, but written by a Nazareth resident so it makes the list. If you have a blog about the Nazareth area, or if you live in the Nazareth area and want to share your blog, let me know and I'll add it to the list!

Clonehedge, self-described on the site as, "a celebration of those first builders who erected Stonehenge as we understand it today, whose idea has turned out to be the ancestor of all icons, so powerful in image that five thousand years later people feel compelled to emulate their achievement, often in the most unlikely places and unsuitable media." This week the site discussed light-heartedly cake-henge (complete with picture), then engages a more serious discussion on Marden Henge. Content is interesting, but topic more probably for our friends across the pond.

Andy's Fan Page has been continuing to follow PCN budget and Legion Baseball, but on Friday lamented the loss of Northampton's Paulie Marcinkowski, who was a hallmark at the K-Kids events serving as their trainer for as long as I can remember. We all keep him and his family in our hearts and prayers.

Breakfast in the Valley headed out of state to bring in a review of Key City Diner in P'Burg (read it here).

From House to Cozy Home celebrated a birthday in the house and gave some great tips on fitting a standard screen door in a non-standard opening.

Lehigh Valley Ramblings as expected has a range of topics covered including the selection of Jerry Seyfried to County Council, Lehigh County voting down a proposal to videocast meetings (a great idea and I can't believe the costs they claim are necessary), there was a shot of a little league team and much, much, more. If you aren't yet a member of his fan club, sign on, apparently it is the cool thing to do for Valley residents this summer.

Steaming Cup of Joe celebrated the successful conclusion to his light-pollution campaign in Upper Nazareth (star gazers everywhere winced in pain;-) Some may recall that many months (years) ago, Joe began a campaign regarding a broken street light in Farmview Estates that the Township didn't fix, and apparently it now shines bright each evening.

Weird Nazareth attended and covered the Kazoo Parade in great detail providing not only commentary and photos - but video of the event.

Weekly Blogosphere Round-up

Expected and saw lighter posting this week especially toward the holiday weekend - enjoy all!

Lehigh Valley Ramblings had some good posts this week and a couple of call outs so I had to feature Bernie's site first. On Tuesday, at the stroke of midnight, Bernie conducted a study of area sites and blogs and their Alexa Ranking. I don't pay too close attention to this for NOC, because how high could it conceivably rank given a focus on a population with less than 25,000? Well, the site is in the 2.8 million range, meaning there are that many more popular than NOC around the world. Bernie did note readership on NOC was up 60% over the past three months, which was a pleasant surprise, though I'm expecting a summer slow down (very common).

Ramblings were outside the top 1 million but didn't hit 2 million, way to go Bernie!

Informationally, Bernie has a great run-down, including resumes of the three candidates to fill the County Council vacancies.

Thanks for the plug on the Town Hall meeting NOC reported Charlie Dent having on Monday!

And finally, Bernie has been practicing extensively for the kazoo parade (this has to be a post on Weird Nazareth next week!)

Andy predicted and saw his prediction come true - no PA budget on July 1. Not sure how he sits through full coverage on PCN, but he does it!

From Cozy House to Home has a great piece on a trip to an antique show complete with photos of items to purchase, kids enjoying the event, and purchases on display in the home - nice job Michelle and loved the pictures of the kids! She has also announced the winner of the throw rug.

Weird Nazareth continues to intrigue with a great post on the history of Christian Springs. I knew the community was originally a Moravain settlement, and got the spring part, but the rest was all news to me and I think some further exploration and potentially historical recognition would be great for the area. Andy has been watching all the PCN coverage of the budget debate (thank goodness someone is doing that for all of us) and is quite convinced they will be working through the 4th of July. He also caught the McDonald's Game at Andrew S. Leh Stadium on Thursday. Also chatted with Andy earlier in the week via Facebook and he thanked me for the round-up, said it made him famous. I think Andy was famous long before NOC. Best wishes Andy!

Breakfast in the Valley not only did a very nice review of Bistro on Main, but included the Rotary Club's Rose sale and mentioned NOC (thanks!).

The latest blog added is From House to Cozy Home. The site celebrated its 100th post this week on a yard sale cabinet make-over, is having an area rug give-away (today is last day to register), and had a recipe for a pie.

Joe Owens took a look back at Michael Jackson and his legacy, thought for sure he'd have gone for Farrah (unless Bernie scooped him;-)

No Farrah photos or posts from Bernie (Lehigh Valley Ramblings), but he did have quite a few on the upcoming Country issues - including the race for Judge in the fall and County Council next year.

The Tatamy Happenings blog had an announcement up regarding Thursday's meeting in Palmer on the Route 33 interchange.

And our alphabetical closer, Weird Nazareth, posted a story based on an article in the New York Times, August 2, 1924, of a large 'Clan Day' at the Nazareth Fairgrounds with over 2000 clan members and families attending.

Weekly Blogosphere Round-up

It's Friday, thought I saw a glimmer of sunlight through the window, and am glad for it as I've been inside and online so much I'm starting to feel virtual myself;-)

Bernie has probably made the best post of the week on Lehigh Valley Ramblings, recognizing Nazareth Police Officer Fred Lahovski, who pulled the 9 year old from the car in the midst of the shoot out between his father and State Troopers. Bernie notes other couragous and herioc efforts of Lahovski and the current state of the Nazareth Police Department - nice work Bernie.

Weird Nazareth continues to impress with incredibly fascinating and cool posts on our beloved town. This week, an atrocious murder of a 5 year old by a cult-like group, and an inquiry into the potential connection between the Knights Templar and Moravian church. Must read posts - great work!

Andy is heading to the Sands and will have a write-up on Monday, he's wishing the Parkland Softball team and Penguins good luck.

Breakfast in the Valley is on a hunger-strike - no new posts (and no info on the cause).

Joe Owens is rejoicing the opening of Prologis Parkway, but confused that there is a 10 mph speed limit discrepancy depending on which direction you are travelling.

Tatamy Happenings has a pair of posts, one reminds residents of Family Day on August 16th.
