The 6:30 p.m. rally at the Park located on Green, Center, and Church Streets drew a crowd of roughly 200 people to hear speakers from the concerned citizens group prior to the monthly meeting of the Borough Council.
Lori Bernardo, Tim Harper, and Frank Finocchio each addressed the crowd who held signs and hand held fans supporting the move to stop the proposed construction of a new Government Center addition to the existing Council Hall.
Petitions were circulated throughout the crowd and the rally concluded just before 7:00 p.m. at which time the crowd moved as best they could into the Council Chambers for the start of the monthly business meeting.
In the audience I could see only two members of Council, Werner and Herbst, while inside during the rally were the Mayor and Councilmen Stoudt and Bowers. Councilmen Samus, Kopach, and Davis each arrived near 7:00 p.m. and only Kopach waited outside to listen.
I think at the very least those on Council should have waited outside to listen to the people before going into the Chamber when they weren't required to in order to at least present the perception that they were considering these individuals and their feelings on this issue. By not doing so, they gave the clear impression that they were not interested.
What do you think? Should the Mayor and other Council have listened to the people at the rally, waited inside for the meeting to begin, or doesn't it make a difference?

Yes Ross, I certainly think that the council members should have stayed outside to hear what the committee had to say. As a matter of fact, when I got inside I told them I thought they should have been out and their comments ranged from WHY? to Why would we do that? Why should we? etc.and all said with looks of fierceness.
Consider the source. They proved by their votes which ones care about their constituants. They can twist the words any way they want but it comes down to arrogance.
I think the wiseness of Dan Chiaveroli is an example of true representation of the people.
We would not be in this mess if the committee was forthright in their process to begin with. We feel like they have been plotting to take control of the borough and squeeze out the will of the people. When people feel their backs are against the wall, the are forced to move.
This happened before in history.
