- Parents are encouraged to join the Shafer PTA. Each membership is $5.00 and the money all feeds back to the kids and the school. Membership chairperson Bridget Weiss can be emailed. And yes I did send in my membership for this year and received my card.
- PTA Reflections Contest (visit the national site with last year's winners here). This year's theme is, "My Favorite Place..." Jane Meckes runs the program (contact her for more info 610.746.0214) for Shafer and if you aren't familiar it is a great activity allowing children to enter as many times as they would like in the areas of Visual Arts, Literature, Photography, Musical Composition and new this year Dance Choreography, and Film & Video Production. There are several levels beginning with school, then moving up to the school district, a region, the state, and the national level. A workshop will be help from 2:30 to 4:00 pm on Friday September 29 and the PTA will supply children with art materials. The workshop is not mandatory and entries are due on October 23, 2006.
- Teacher web pages - want to learn more about your child's teacher or what is happening in class? Visit the teacherweb section of the Shafer site (view it here) select a grade and find your teacher.
- Kiwanis K-Kids. Membership in the K-Kids is currently being accepted (I belivee this is for 3rd to 5th grade). The program is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of the Nazareth Area and is to develop leadership and a strong moral character through service to the school and community. Miss Zopf is the advisor and can be emailed. Membership is $3.00 and the group meets once or twice per month after school on Thursdays.
- The September Pipeline (newsletter of the PTA) was sent home (sorry not online at this point) and includes notes regarding the following (links are to email):
- Harvast dance on October 13th, Shafer Gym, 6-8pm. Volunteers must have a clearance on file contact Laurie Morgan Dance Chairperson.
- The Fall fundraiser will run 9/18 to 10/6 offfering Chocolates on Broadway. Mary Saveri is the Fundraising Chairperson.
- Questions regarding the PTA and its activities can be directed to PTA President Amy Plumhoff.
- Volunteers are needed for the Hospitality Committee throughout the year contact Marisa Stevenson for more information.
- RIF Chairperson Karen Redmon encourages all parents to save used ink or toner cartidges and sent them in for the Staples Recycle fo rEducation Program. Each donation to the school yields $3.00 from Staples.
- A new program Market Day is being offered wherein grocery type food is ordered by parents, delivered to the school and a donation is made to the PTA based on the order. Contact Eileen Fusco, PTA Vice-President for more information.
- Volunteers are needed for the annual Book Publishing Program. Contact Patti Quinn to learn how to help.
- Photos are being requested for inclusion in the School Yearbook. Contact Veronica Creazzo to submit or for more information.
- The School Store will again be open and volunteers are needed. Contact either Shannon Baun or Kathy Peterson for more information.
- The PTA is again participating in the General Mills Box Tops program. Campbell Soup Labels are also being collected. Contact Eileen Fusco for more information.
- A general call for volunteers was made by the Volunteer Chairperson, Patti Castellucci, who can inform you of the requirements to volunteer and how to get the proper forms processed.
- Shafer open houses are coming on September 18 (K at 6:30, 1st at 7:30), 19 (2nd at 6:30 and 4th at 7:30), and 20 (3rd at 6:30 and 5th at 7:30).
- School food services had several announcements including the availability of menus online, pricing, lunch box account information, charged meals policy. You can access this information along the left side bar of this page.

Shafer School News
If you have an elementary aged student I'm sure you've received a good share of announcements and newsletters since school re-opened. Since I'm now taking the time to go through the rainbow array of sheets I figured it might help some of you out to get the "cliff" notes version:
