Bowers - Open by Law, No Comment by Preference

Councilman Conrad Bowers cast the lone dissenting vote against open meetings during the December 4, 2006 Nazareth Borough Council Meeting. Bowers served on the Committee that first recommended the addition to the current Council Chambers onto Hall Park. Said committee is now in discussion with Council over a bill in excess of $25,000.00 from the architect that no one on Council wants to take responsibility for.

On Monday, December 11, 2006, while forced to open his meetings to the public by virtue of the vote, Bowers chose to disallow public comment/input.

Read the article from the Morning Call (here).

Bowers is one of six council persons up for re-election in 2007. Bowers was not elected to office, but instead was appointed by Council to fill a vacancy.

The biggest vacancy is the one between Bowers ears. We need to get that bozo off council pronto.

Please keep focused on actions and issues as opposed to individual flames.

Many sites and forums have become wastelands because they devolve into nothing but attacks, I don't want this one to go there. Right now its a good place despite the many emotional issues and the comments have been handled in what I'd consider to be an appropriate manner.

If you don't like his performance, visit the Voter Registration office, request his ward's registered voter list and see who'd be a good candidate to run against him.

Thanks - Ross

While I agree we do not want this forum to become a mudslinging free for all the point remains that some people do not deserve respect of their fellow peers. To me it appears one councilman is holding a grudge because he did not get his own way and is therefore, in an egotistical way, making life miserable for the entire council, who do appear to have the common good as their purpose.

Not sure if anon is same person, but I personally think the point is made more emphatically saying that he doesn't deserve the respect of his peers because of his actions than calling him a name.

I don't mind discussing the actions and inactions, I think its good, the name calling is what I'd prefer to avoid. Didn't want you to think I didn't want that interaction.

Thanks again, Ross

Ross, The antidote for Conrad Bowers is coming in November. He has made clear he does not want the common folk involved in their own government, and the common folk will have the opportunity to say something about that soon should Bowers dare to seek election. And as you point, several seats are up. I think it's important that ALL candidates seeking a position on borough council make clear whether they will allow public participation in committee meetings. I especially want to know what Stoudt has to say.
