The last day to circulate and file petitions at the County for the 2007 local elections is Tuesday, March 6.
There are 24 local seats up for election this year. Excepting the Magistrate position, which requires 100 signatures and a $50.00 filing fee, the other seats only require 10 signatures and there is no filing fee. More information is available here from the Candidate to Resident (PDF) program and from the Election Office.
If you are running for one of these positions, please contact me at editor@newsovercoffee.com. I would like to announce candidacies on the site and will be hosting Candidate Meet and Greets at the Nazareth News Agency. Having contact information will be very helpful to best ensure that dates are good for all and accurate candidate information is provided. Thanks!
Regarding myself, several people have asked if I am running for office this year, and I am not.
I want to continue to manage this site and I've submitted my name for consideration to be a member of the Nazareth Downtown Board of Directors.
Nazareth Downtown is the new name for the Main Street Manager Program. I'll have more information up in the near future, but in essence it will be a new 501(C)(3) not for profit organization dedicated to promoting, and providing resources and assistance to downtown Nazareth businesses and organizations. It will seeded by a State Grant and Borough support, but must become self-sufficient within five years.
The initial Board will need to lay the groundwork for programs, assistance, and fundraising, as well as coordinating with all existing groups, organizations, and businesses to avoid being competitive with them in these endeavors.
It has great potential, but will also present its share of challenges. If you would like to learn more or would be interested in serving on either the Board of Directors or a Committee of the new organization, please contact me at editor@newsovercoffee.com
