Sex Offender Laws - Time to Review Locally?

At Monday's Council meeting, Councilman Kopach asked if there were any sex offender laws in the Borough (read the post here). It was taken to law committee. I'd imagine the question was asked as a result of many articles appearing in both the Morning Call (parents' responsibility, a new township law, and local restrictions) and Express-Times (on state law changes that may be coming, on municipalities across the state, and on Hellertown's consideration) at the end of March and beginning of April.

At Council it was noted that there were four registered sex offenders in the Borough.

Today the Express-Times had an item regarding a 21 year old sex offender in Lower Nazareth (read the article here). While this was not of a predatory nature (ie stalking children), it does drive home the fact that these things happen everywhere.

It would seem that all the municipalities of the NASD should work together to create a consistent statute/laws to address sex offender notification and location in a preemptive and not reactive way.

It would also seem that the time to do something is now, what do you think?
