I was unable to attend last night's Borough Council meeting, but Kelly-Anne Suarez of the Morning Call reports (read it here) that New Jersey State Police Captain Richard Rosell of Little Egg Harbor, NJ was unanimously nominated as the next Police Chief.
Pending physical and civil exams, Rosell is expected to take over on August 1.
In other big news the Council voted 6-3 against "a resolution to draft a contract to outline a merger between the Nazareth and Upper Nazareth police departments."
And, after two or three months of discussion, "The council also approved hiring an additional part-timer for the Police Department for the summer."
The Council did not specify the role for this additional part-time officer so he/she will be assigned as deemed necessary. The discussion specifically addressed a need at the Borough Park and in the area of the school during dismissal. The fact that the hiring is for the summer would indicate variable hours assigned to the Park and special events, which would be welcome.
