The Express-Times has an article today (read it here) regarding the Foundation created in memory of Nazareth student Martin McGowan who died from the flu at age 15 three years ago.
In the article his mother, who now heads the foundation, encourages everyone to get their flu shots.
MARTIN stands for May All Receive Their Immunizations Now and according to Families Fighting Flu, Inc., "The non-profit organization’s purpose will be to provide information to eliminate the misconceptions of the influenza virus so that individuals understand the importance of immunization. The foundation will achieve its mission by educating parents, children and athletic groups about the seriousness of the flu and its complications."
You can find information on the organization on the Families fighting Flu site (view it here). I was unable to find a site specific to the MARTIN Flu Foundation, if anyone has the link please forward it to me.
